Art Story

Our buildings speak. But so do the walls, the stairwells, the corners, the unexpected moments. JEMM Expressions is our creative program dedicated to embedding art in everyday life.

Who We Are

Where Design Meets Dialogue

JEMM Expressions is more than a mural initiative. It’s our commitment to working with local artists, curators, and communities to turn functional spaces into expressive ones. We believe art belongs in the everyday — and that buildings can carry meaning beyond their square footage.

Whether it’s commissioning a vibrant stairwell installation or working with youth artists on a community-facing wall, Expressions brings life and conversation to every JEMM site.

Local ArtistFirst

We work with Calgary-based and regional artists who reflect the diversity and vibrancy of our city.

IntegratedEarly

Art is not an afterthought. We integrate creative opportunities into the design process from the beginning.

Accessible& Public

This isn’t art for galleries — it’s for hallways, courtyards, bike rooms, and elevators.

The Hive –“Sunnyside Bloom” Mural

The Sunnyside Bloom mural was created by Calgary artist Cassie Suche, whose abstract organic forms mirror the natural energy of the Sunnyside neighbourhood. The piece spans the lounge wall within The Hive, transforming the space into a living extension of the surrounding community. Drawing inspiration from the movement of wind through grass and the flow of the Bow River, the mural evokes growth, connection, and calm.

Painted in layered strokes of coral, teal, and gold, Sunnyside Bloom brings warmth and vitality to a shared environment designed for gathering. Its branching shapes seem to expand beyond the wall itself, suggesting the flourishing of ideas and relationships within the building. The work embodies JEMM’s belief that art belongs in everyday life — not confined to galleries, but woven into the textures of where people live, meet, and create.

Bridge – Wayfinding Graphics by Emerging Artist Collective

The Bridge wayfinding program was developed through a collaboration between JEMM Properties and an Emerging Artist Collective of Calgary-based designers. This series of geometric wall graphics and color-coded directional markers turns practical navigation into a vibrant visual experience. Blending function with creativity, each corridor and stairwell becomes a composition of shifting lines and layered hues that guide residents through the building.

More than signage, these integrated artworks celebrate orientation as a form of connection — linking spaces, people, and moments within the building. Each palette and pattern reflects the tone of Bridgeland’s surrounding landscape and architecture, helping residents intuitively locate themselves while enjoying a sense of discovery. The result is an environment that is as inspiring to move through as it is to live in, reinforcing JEMM’s commitment to thoughtful, human-centered design.

Bridge – Wishing Wellby Living Lenses

Wishing Well was created by renowned artists from Living Lenses of San Francisco.  The sculpture evokes a shell splitting open to reveal a seed. It is made of stainless steel and weighs 2200 kilograms. Standing 3.88 metres tall, 5.36 metres wide and 4 metres deep it provides a landmark art piece within the community. Visitors can freely interact with Wishing Well by walking through it and around it, as well as by texting a wish to the sculpture to experience digital light and sound from within the sculpture.

In collaboration with the City of Calgary.
